In this farewell note I am saying goodbye to the three years we have spent here at BETHEL SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, for in every facet of school life we have left a mark and each experience can return upon reflection. These experiences compose the pages of our book of life. This graduation experience will become a part of it. If you re-read it some day, it will tell you of success. A success of symbolizing years of patience and encouragement on the part of your teachers who have raised you, given you guidance in our quest for happiness and success; teachers who have helped you over this step in school life; our friends who are an essential part of your life.
Have I really been here three Years? That sounds like a long time ...about the same length as an English Teacher. That too can seem to go on and on. Fortunately for you I don't plan to. I remember coming here full of ideas, things to do to make a difference. I thought I am the teacher and you, the students were my pupils. My head was so full of how things 'should be', teach English to improve the student’s skill to speak English well. The gap in those early days between what I thought I needed to teach and what the students actually needed to learn was wide. There were times when bridging it was difficult. There were even times when it seemed impossible and I wanted to give up. I gave a gift of myself; my energy, enthusiasm, honesty, respect and love, to you. But I want to turn that around and give it back, for this is precisely what I feel you have given me. I have been privileged to have had in my classroom many, many fine young people.
Despite the altering of outward appearance and what people are called, there has always been and always will be a constant. That is the inner need to strive for what is true and right. It is with gratitude that I look back. I entered a profession dedicated to assisting young English leaner to achieve your potential, to revealing or finding their highest truth. I want to pay tribute to my students for your support, friendship and exemplars of what it is to serve faithfully and with humility. I will always remember our shared laughter, our joys as well as our struggles. Thank-you too, for the notes of appreciation, words of encouragement, sharing of resources, and time but mostly for your sincerity and trust.
And lastly, You leave us with this thought. We are unique. We are neither better nor less than anybody else but rather the best or least of ourselves. To the students , I say this. Live your life to the fullest and get every ounce of worth out of it. High school life have prepared a basic life to choose a better future .We have met for three years each others as a friends and learn to get along with people, to give and to take. You will never live these three years again and there is so much to do. Prepare yourself now for the job to come or university life. Because there is more to learn, more people to meet, more demands. So very much is up to you. Don't be discouraged by failure or disappointment. Failure is a challenge which we must all pick up and fight openly. In overcoming it, we add excitement and suspense to our story.
Thanks
Kimson Gultom, S.S
